B: 谁写的?这么潦草!我一个都不认识。
shéi xiě de? zhème liáocǎo! wǒ yī gè dōu bù rènshi.
Who wrote this? It's so messy! I don't recognize a single character.
C: 拜托啊大哥!这是草书,是艺术!看人家写得龙飞凤舞的,多漂亮!
bàituō a dàgē! zhè shì cǎoshū, shì yìshù! kàn rénjiā xiě de lóngfēifèngwǔ de, duō piàoliang!
Come on, man! This is calligraphy. It's artwork! The artist wrote it so freely and expressively. It's really beautiful!
B: 哎,咱一年到头也写不了几个字。我上一次写字还是收快递的时候签了个名。我还经常提笔忘字。
āi, zán yī niándàotóu yě xiěbùliǎo jǐ ge zì. wǒ shàngyīcì xiězì háishì shōu kuàidì de shíhou qiān le ge míng. wǒ hái jīngcháng tíbǐwàngzì.
Agh, we don't handwrite more than a few characters a year. The last time I wrote something by hand was when I had to sign for an express delivery. I often forget characters when I write by hand, too.
A: 小时候我还练过几年书法呢。自从开始用电脑,字就写得越来越差了。
xiǎo shíhou wǒ hái liàn guo jǐnián shūfǎ ne. zìcóng kāishǐ yòng diànnǎo, zì jiù xiě de yuèláiyuè chà le.
When I was young I studied calligraphy for a few years, but since I started using a computer, my handwriting has gotten worse and worse.
C: 我练过钢笔字。不过没练成个样子,还是写得像狗爬。
wǒ liàn guo gāngbǐzì. bùguò méi liàn chéng ge yàngzi, háishì xiě de xiàng gǒu pá.
I've practiced pen calligraphy before, but I wasn't any good. My writing looked like a dog had walked on the paper.
B: 以前有点儿文化的人基本都能写一手好字。到我们这一代就不行了。
yǐqián yǒudiǎnr wénhuà de rén jīběn dōu néng xiě yī shǒu hǎo zì. dào wǒmen zhèyīdài jiù bù xíng le.
In the past practically everyone with a bit of education could write pretty well. People nowadays can't at all.
A: 俗话说:字如其人,这么说的话,我们都是些上不了台面的。
súhuà shuō: zìrúqírén, zhèmeshuō dehuà, wǒmen dōu shì xiē shàngbuliǎo táimiàn de.
As the saying goes: handwriting reflects a person's character. If this is true, then we're a pretty pathetic bunch.
C: 现在的小孩子不知道还练不练字?
xiàn zài de de xiǎo háizi bù zhīdào hái liàn bu liàn zì?
Do children even know how to practice calligraphy these days?
A: 应该很少了吧。都忙着学钢琴,考英语呢!新闻上说有些小学都要求学生带着iPad上课,作业也是发电子版的给老师。
yīnggāi hěnshǎo le ba. dōu máng zhe xué gāngqín, kǎo yīngyǔ ne! xīnwén shàng shuō yǒuxiē xiǎoxué dōu yāoqiú xuésheng dài zhe iPad shàngkè, zuòyè yě shì fā diànzǐbǎn de gěi lǎoshī.
Probably very few. They're all busy learning how to play the piano and practicing English! The news says that some schools require students to bring iPads to class so that they can email their assignments to their teachers.
C: 汉字这么复杂,小时候不练,以后更不会写了。电脑真是害人不浅,汉字和书法可是国粹啊,就这样丢掉了。
hànzì zhème fùzá, xiǎo shíhou bù liàn, yǐhòu gèng bù huì xiě le. diànnǎo zhēn shì hàirénbùqiǎn, hànzì hé shūfǎ kěshì guócuì a, jiù zhèyàng diūdiào le.
Chinese characters are so complex. If you don't practice them when you're young, you definitely won't be able to write them when you're older. Computers really are very harmful; characters and calligraphy are the essence of our national culture and they're causing us to lose them!
B: 不会写也没事。全世界都用电脑打,认识就行了。
bùhuì xiě yě méishì. quánshìjiè dōu yòng diànnǎo dǎ, rènshi jiù xíng le.
It doesn't matter if you can't write them. The whole world uses computers to write. If you can recognize them, that's enough.
A: 我们再往前走走吧。
wǒmen zài wǎng qián zǒu zou ba.
