LECCION TERCERA. LESSON THREE

¿Qué tal está? How are you?
¿Usted fuma? Do you smoke?
Muy poco. Very little.
¿Quiere un cigarro? Do [you] want a cigarette?
Sí. Gracias. Yes. Thank you.
El tabaco rubio, en España, es caro. (The) light (blond) tobacco in Spain is expensive.
Tiene usted razón. You are (You have) right.
El tabaco negro cuesta mucho menos. (The) black tobacco costs much less.
Y no fumar es todavía más barato. And not smoking (not to smoke) is even cheaper.

LECCION CUARTA Masculino y femenino LESSON 4 Masculine and feminine

El niño bebe el agua. The child drinks (the) water.
La madre coge una llave. The mother takes a key.
La casa está lejos. The house is far [away].

Nosotros no tenemos ganas. We don't feel like it (don't have desires).
Vosotras tenéis un apartamento bonito. You have a nice apartment.
Ella tiene un perro pequeño. She has a small dog (dog small).
Yo he ido al cine. I have gone to the cinema.
¿Has comido bien? Have you eaten well?
El no ha venido todavía. He has not come yet.
Nosotros hemos ganado la partida. We have won the match.
Vosotros habéis conocido a su hermana. You have known (to) his sister.
Ellas han telefoneado a su madre. They (fem.) have phoned (to) their mother.

Por favor. ¿Sabe usted si hay una gasolinera por aquí? Please. Do you know if there is a petrol station near here (by here)?
¿No es usted de aquí, verdad? You are not from here, are you (true)?
No, y estoy un poco perdido. No, and I am a little lost.
No se preocupe, hay una muy cerca de aquí. Don't worry (don't preoccupy yourself). There is one very close to here.
¿Dónde tiene usted el coche? Where is your car? (where do you have your car?)
Es el rojo que está aparcado detrás del blanco. It is the red [one] that is parked behind the white [one].

¿Ve usted el semáforo? Do you see the traffic light? (semaphore)
Para llegar a la gasolinera, tiene que girar a la derecha después del semáforo. (In order) to arrive at (arrive to) the petrol station, you have to (you have that) turn to the right after the traffic light.

Antes de acostarse. Before going to bed (to lie oneself down).
¿Qué hora es? What time is it? (What hour is it?)
Son las diez y cuarto. It is a quarter past ten (they are the tens and quarter).
Voy a acostarme. I'm going to bed (to lie myself down).
¿Mañana vas a madrugar? Tomorrow are you going to get up early?
Sí. ¿Puedes despertarme a las siete? Yes. Can you wake me up at seven o'clock (at the sevens)?
¿Por qué no pones tu despertador? Why don't you set (put) your alarm clock?
Porque el muelle está roto. Because the spring is broken.
Entonces, de acuerdo. Buenas noches. Alright then, OK. Good night(s).
Buenas noches. Hasta mañana. Good night. See you tomorrow (Until tomorrow).

LECCION DECIMA Ser - Estar LESSON TEN The two verbs "to be"

Yo estoy contigo. I am with you.
Tú estás cansada. You are tired.
Hoy está ocupado. Today he is busy.
Ellos están en la habitación. They are in the room (habitation).
Vosotras estáis con ellos. You (familiar, fem. plural) are with them (masculine).
Nosotros estamos en Barcelona. We are in Barcelona.
Ya conocemos este tipo de construcción. We already know this type of construction.
Pero... But...
Yo soy francés. I am French.
Tú eres una mujer. You are a woman.
Es la una. It is one o'clock (the one (fem.)).
Nosotras somos jóvenes. We are young.
Vosotros sois inteligentes. You (plural) are intelligent.
Las mesas son pequeñas. The tables are small.

LECCION ONCE Quiero hablar castellano LESSON ELEVEN I want to speak Spanish (Castilian)

Ahora hablamos francés. Now we speak French.
Queremos hablar también castellano. We also want to speak Castilian.
¡Hola, Juan! Hello, Juan!
¡Carmen! ¿Adónde vas? Carmen! (To) where are you going?
Voy a clase. Me he puesto a estudiar francés. I'm going to class. I'm studying (I've put myself to) studying French.

LECCION DOCE Entre vecinos LESSON TWELVE Amongst neighbours

Esta familia está de vacaciones. This family is on holiday (of holidays).
¿Dónde viven ustedes? Where do you (polite, plural) live?
Vivimos aquí. Esta casa es la nuestra. We live here. This house is ours (the our).
¿Tienen niños? Have you (polite, plural) [any] children?
Sí. Este niño es nuestro hijo Rafael. Yes. This child is our son Rafael.
Y la pequeña, que ustedes ven en el balcón, es nuestra hija Teresa. And the little [one] whom you see on the balcony is our daughter Teresa.
¿Quieren subir a tomar el café? Do you want (polite, plural) to come up (go up) and have some coffee (take the coffee)?
Con mucho gusto. Además, Cecilia podrá hacer una amiga. With pleasure (with much taste). Moreover, Cecilia will be able to make a friend.
Estamos de vacaciones y no conocemos a nadie aquí. We are on holiday and we don't know anybody (to nobody) here.

LECCION TRECE Un poco de todo LESSON THIRTEEN A little of everything

¿Hay vino para cenar? Is there any wine for dinner?
He pagado veinte pesetas por la leche. I paid twenty pesetas for the milk.
Es la una y diez. It is ten past one.
No, son las dos y cuarto. No, it is a quarter past two.
¿Por qué no vas? Why don't you go?
Porque José va a llegar ahora. Because José is going to arrive now.
Eres un hombre. You are a man.
Estás en la ciudad. You are in the city.
¿Dónde estamos? Where are we?
¿Adónde vamos? Where are we going?
En esta calle, hay mucha circulación. In this street, there is a lot of traffic.
Esas camisas no son caras. Those shirts are not expensive.

¿Hay mucha circulación ahora? - Sí, porque son las siete. Is there much traffic now? Yes, because it's seven o'clock.
