Bah, j`étais passionné d`astronomie. Je crois que ça a commencé le jour où j`ai appris qu`Armstrong avait marché sur la lune. Je n`avais que sept ans, mais je souviens que je m`étais dit : ‘Comment il a fait ? Je croyais qu`il n`était possible de se déplacer que sur terre.’

Well, astronomy was my passion. I think it started when I found out that Armstrong walked on the moon. I was only seven, but I remember thinking to myself: "How did he do it? I thought it was only possible to walk on earth?"

J`étais stupéfait. Et je me suis alors rendu compte que je n`avais aucune connaissance de l`univers. Je connaissais le nom des différentes planètes, bien sûr, et je savais qu`elles étaient ‘très, très loin de nous’ mais c`est tout.

I was flabbergasted. I then realized I didn`t know anything about the universe. I knew the names of the different planets, of course, and I knew they were very, very far from us, but that was about it.

C`est un peu ça. Je me suis mis à m`intéresser aux différents astres, aux différentes planètes : Mars, Venus, Pluton, Jupiter… et me suis renseigné sur leurs conditions atmosphériques.

Something like that. I started taking an interest in the different stars, in the different planets: Mars, Venus, Pluto, Jupiter... and tried finding out about their atmospheric conditions.

J`étais vraiment avide de connaissances, je voulais qu`on m`explique tout : qu`est-ce qu`une année-lumière, où se situe exactement le Système solaire dans la Voie Lactée, combien l`univers compte-t-il de galaxies…

I was really hungry for knowledge, I wanted everything to be explained to me: what is a light-year, where exactly is the solar system located in the Milky Way, how many galaxies are there in the universe...

J`en ai lu des tonnes, mes parents m`en offraient toujours à Noël ou à mon anniversaire et j`étais comblé.

I read tons of them, my parents would always give me some for Christmas or for my birthday and I was more than satisfied.

Haha, tes parents en ont eu de la chance ! J`étais beaucoup plus difficile en matière de cadeau, moi. Et maintenant, l`astronomie te passionne toujours autant?

Ah, pour moi, l`astronomie, c`est loin d`être une passade, c`est la passion de toute une vie. En ce moment, je lis un livre qui s`appelle ‘S`il n`avait pas inventé la lunette astronomique’. Et je n`arrête pas de me dire : ‘C`est fou à quel point chaque invention a vraiment son poids dans l`histoire de la science… ‘

Well, you know, astronomy for me is not a fling, it is the passion of a lifetime. I`m reading a book right that`s called 'If he hadn`t invented the telescope'. And I can`t stop thinking: 'It`s crazy how every single invention matters in the history of science...'
